Einstein Travels Back to John’s Future

In this new series, Einstein travels to a future where John is just about to begin his studies at Berkeley. Einstein discovers in his dreams that John and his brother, Rudy, have futures out there, in which they are part of a new kind of world.

Einstein ignored John’s question yesterday on the beach. He knows that if he had told him that he was the real Einstein, things would have gone off course. He will say more to him when he returns to the beach tomorrow. John’s ‘tomorrow’, that is.

And this John, who Einstein is meeting at the beach, is actually a future John. The John, who is now in his current life in Austin Texas, might consider this future John to be crazy for leaving everything he has in Austin, to go to Berkeley

conversations einstein leaning at edgeEinstein thinks to himself:

From my dreams, I’ve learned that I’m here at the edge of the cosmos so that I can light up futures for people who are uncertain about whether they are going to choose their fascinating transcendent futures or the ones that can diminish their lives.

It is clear to me that it is the future that determines what is happening in the present time for people, not the past. Their dreams and their visions come from futures that guide and direct them forward in wonderful ways or for too many, in mediocre and even awful ways.

Einstein looks around to discover that he is inside the Temple of Dreams, where he is lying in a conversations temple of dreams gilbert williamshammock of light, hanging from a huge domed ceiling in the temple. There are others in hammocks of light; some of them are also in their afterlives. The hammocks wrap their threads of light around them, and form cocoons like those hanging in huge protective oak tree branches that fan with colonies of caterpillars dissolving to make room for future butterflies.

Einstein curls up in his cocoon and closes his eyes. He dreams of futures in which the very nature of humans and the world in which they live … become new. A whole array of futures present themselves to him, including those of John and his brother Rudy.

Rudy, is walking along the beach, in the afternoon sun, looking for John. He came to be with him and conversations beach afternoon walkhelp him get settled at the university. Rudy is late, as usual, but since John didn’t answer his phone, he expects to find him somewhere on the beach. He looks up, and John is sitting on a rock formation a little ways from the ocean. John is waiting to see if Rudy will actually look for him. Rudy grins, as John climbs down to meet him.

John tells Rudy about the strange man that he met yesterday, who looks just like Einstein. He also tells him about how this Einstein man disappeared the second after John turned his head to see the incredible sunset. They both decide to keep a look out for this weird old guy, as they catch up on their musings and thoughts about things happening in their lives.

Rudy looks right past John into the ocean, in the middle of their conversation:

You know John, people have told me that I’m creative and super smart. And some times, I know that. But as I think about when I was a student, I now realize that I didn’t really try hard to get the best grades in college. I liked having more freedom with life, to let my ideas come out of nowhere. I’ve been criticized and put down for this.

Sometimes, I feel out of sorts with the world. You seem to fit in better. You are personable and compassionate. You have close and deep relationships with friends.

I can get a job paying in the 6 figures, and I always get along with everyone, and we tease around with one another, but I don’t think anyone really knows who I am.

I have fun putting ideas and things together in new ways. It’s something I’m good at. But I don’t know what it is that wants to come out of me. I want the freedom to see what that is, but there are times when I am afraid that I won’t find my way. I’m not sure that I really know who I am.

John:

You will find your way, Rudy. I’m not sure what I’m doing here, so I don’t really know if I will find my way, either. That Einstein guy talked about how you and I have more in common than we think. I forgot what he said … something about creativity and innovation and how we both want to help the world evolve … or at least make sure that there is more creativity and innovation in the world.  I guess he was saying that this is important so that the world doesn’t just go down because it gets stale or something.

Rudy:

That makes sense, John. Remember when my friend took up that new idea I had, with me. It’s been less than a year, and look at where we are!

I have a hard time describing what this brings up for me. I have my family. My wife has supported me to go after my dreams. And my son sees the world through completely trusting eyes. He believes that anything at all is possible. He is more than a prodigy. His aunt calls him a little Buddha. And all of this takes me somewhere new and wonderful.

But also, to have my friend, who had already made millions, be interested enough to do this with me … Well, maybe I can find my way in this world, after all. Maybe I can contribute something significant by going after what fascinates me. What I love is that I don’t have to do it all alone. I didn’t know how much I would enjoy creating things with other people. And my projects are way more successful than I expected.

John:

Yes, you have had a truly incredible year. Your friend is lucky to work with you, Rudy. You are a great person to have as a friend.

John holds back tears. Everything is so unknown. He is going to miss Rudy.

In that moment, Rudy realizes how much he loves John. He looks out over the ocean so that his glassy conversations ocean sunny beacheyes can hide themselves in the afternoon sun. Texas and California are not just a short drive away. When he turns around again, this older man who looks just like Albert Einstein is standing a ways behind John.

Rudy points to John to alert him to this, and whispers into his ear:

This IS Albert Einstein. How could this be?

Then Rudy notices that Einstein is walking on the other side of John, without having had enough time to get there.

Einstein:

Have you noticed how things don’t always work like they used to work? For example, earlier in your life, if you made someone feel bad about themselves, they might do what you wanted, in order to get rid of the shame they felt after your attempt to make them feel bad. But now, if you try that technique, it just makes matters worse.

So you eventually discover that if you want something from someone, you need to tell them why it’s important to you. And you let them know that they matter to you, regardless of their decision.

You may not get what you want, exactly, but it still works out better than the old way. You might even receive … something you didn’t know you wanted. Something better than what you wanted in the first place.

What I’m going to say next might sound confusing or a little wacky to you. There is a new world coming. It isn’t just a new take on the world you know. Your world is not just changing. It is becoming different. This is why things often don’t work the same way they used to. You might believe that there is something wrong with you at times. And that’s just not true.

Even the world that existed during my time, can still relate to your current world. For example, my Relativity Theory has merit on its own.  But the world we have known is now dying at an accelerated rate. In time, Relativity theory will not be a separate theory. It will be part of something much more complex … a new theory that is not here yet. And gravity will be a new kind of phenomena.

People who wish to finish their lives in the old world, will do so. But those who want to experience this new world, will begin to live pieces of it … until this new world holds more and more of their attention, and eventually it will become the world at hand.

Einstein turns to look into the eyes of John and Rudy:

You will need to look at your lives differently so that you can experience more of this new world. Everyone has felt disappointed, and at times you are going to feel like you’re not enough. It is important to feel this when it comes up. But don’t stay here too long. Instead, look for what fascinates you…

What about yourself is fascinating to you? What do you do that fascinates you? Then, give your attention to what is fascinating. If you do this, eventually you will see a fascinating world all around you.

You will need courage to move beyond your excuses for why you can not have what really matters to you.

When your life becomes more about receiving the beauty and mystery of a fascinating world, you will begin to live your life with a kind of gratitude that most have not imagined. You see, gratitude generates happiness and trust in the world. It actually connects you with beauty, love, and the mysterious of life. You become full of wonder about life.

You have no idea of its power. You think its something you ‘should’ be feeling … when really it is a gift that is given to you so that you can feel it and let it lift your life beyond what you can imagine. It will even help you remember who you really are. But that is for another time.

What I can also tell you is that as you let in more of the mystery and beauty of life, you will begin to allow your beautiful and fascinating futures to be the ones who guide you; and many of your dreams and visions will come from these futures.  The competing negative futures that will also be trying to get your attention, will be less interesting to you.

John turns to Rudy:

I told you he was weird and strange.
