An Extraordinary Undercurrent of Surprise

The future female president of 2029 speaks to an overflowing crowd as she continues with her inaugural speech. The crowd is quiet, still. Their attention is with her.

Future Female President:

I want to tell you something we have learned since 2018 when Trump put our country’s dignity and leadership in the world … at great risk. Trump was becoming desperate. He was attacking anyone who would threaten to expose him.

Trump would accuse other people in power, who crossed him, of doing the things he himself was guilty of doing. He focused his follower’s attention on the horrible things ‘they did’, through the stories he would make up to distract people from his own duplicity.

He seemed to lack the faculty for having compassion for other human beings … He referred to the families whose their children were being taken away from their own mothers … as ‘infesting’ our country. We use the word, infest … to refer to insects …. or parasites. It is a dehumanizing word. I continue to shudder out of control as I reflect upon this.

The actions of the Trump administration to separate children from their mothers and fathers … violated a child’s fragile sense of hope … not to speak of what it did to the parents. If you expunge hope from a child’s life, you can nullify their future … and they will become incapable of thriving in the world. Children do not relate to the concept of time as adults do. For them, the moment is all there is.

You might wonder how so many people could follow a man like this. Well few of his followers would research the news for the truth. Trump along with Fox News instructed them that the only ones they could trust in the country were Trump and Fox News.

Fox News used Trump’s personal strategy to promote themselves. They would accuse the other news cable stations and media of being dishonest and giving fake news so that their own followers would not trust nor listen to the other news media … People did not think and feel about it all in comprehensive ways that could have helped them to have deeper understanding … and they became easy to manipulate. This sustained the audience and ratings for both Trump and Fox News.

But something else was at play … that helped Trump claim his realm of influence. And this might surprise you. I believe as time evolved, news and social media … of all kinds, including the liberal media, gave Trump the fuel he needed to grow his power base.

Now, it didn’t begin that way. News media and social media initially helped to expose the corruption of Trump and his administration … a level of corruption that surpassed our country’s historical recordings. The media also exposed the impotency of a republican congress who had lost their own sense of character … integrity … and vision … It exposed the passivity and lack of empowered leadership in the democratic party after President Obama left.

But Trump intensified his verbal outrage and focus on what the news media would expose about him or his cronies … and then he would call it fake news. He commanded most all of the attention … They focused their news media on him …

Trump took all of this energy focused on him … from those in the news and social media … even those who were exposing his corruption … and he used their energy … to alchemize truth into lies … to command the rhetoric he wanted people to believe.

So more people drifted over to Trump, believing what he would ‘save’ them from those awful ‘others’ … They mistrusted the free press and diminishing their support for Mueller, who would be significant not only for documenting the monumental corruption in Trump’s government and for his potential indictments of Trump and his cronies … but also for preserving the integrity of democracy.

The news and social media were feeding Trump … no matter what positions they took. He used any focus at all … to make his case and create a story for his followers … who would support him at any cost. His followers had one place where they felt like they belonged and that was with Trump.

The republican congress sold out to Trump because most all of them had lost their integrity and character … and decided that the ‘ends’ justified the ‘means’. They stopped caring about ‘how’ they would go about getting what they wanted. They denied their own conscience the opportunity to express its self-constructive judgements that could have directed them to behave in ways that would have supported ‘a more perfect union’.

Anais Nin floats through the sunlit warmth of mist in the afternoon until the breeze itself places her amid this crowd gathered for the future female president’s inaugural speech. She looks around to discover where she is.

Anais Nin reflects:

And here I am again, in the year 2029, at a future female president’s inaugural address. Maybe this future could elevate hope for people in 2018, who are going through a chaotic time. Their president and his White House, along with the disintegrated republican congress have been crushing the heart and soul … threatening the spirit … of their own government … Not that they are ‘inherently evil or bad’. But they are part of the end of something that can not work.

It is strange. I remember day dreaming about this future female president and wondering what she might say … at the same time I was also in a gathering of at least a million people formed after the midterms of 2018. And somehow … I am here at her  inaugural speech.

This differs from the way I related to time and space during my lifetime. I know I’m in my afterlife … but I’m learning something …

Virginia Woolf appears next to Anais Nin:

Anais, I felt the urge to return also. You and I know now that the ‘pasts’ and ‘futures’ of humans are all happening now … and that time and space are tools so that people can focus … in a more 3 dimensional way.  But people don’t understand how time can work yet. They still believe time is linear. It is amazing to move around in nonlinear time. And to use our imagination to show up in different places … and between and beyond those places, such as our meeting place in the Between, at the edge of the cosmos.

Remember, Anais, how this president came to us in her dream state and asked us for our support during her inaugural address? Let’s listen to more of what she is saying.

Future Female President:

The question now is: how did we turn the tide away from giving Trump the life force of our country to use for his own gain? This story is both compelling and extraordinarily powerful. It is complex in a way that may appear simple. I believe the word to describe this movement … is elegance.

People felt a deeper sense of belonging … to the character, morality, and compassion of their humanity … So many things seen and unseen contributed to the changes that occurred. I can not mention all of them …

It started with a few people here and there … who seemed to inspire fascination … mystery … a sense of belonging in people … And that was enough to inspire those people to became an inspiration for others in their own lives …

President Barack Obama and Michelle were taking part at the heart of this new direction as they began their series on Netflix. Let me read you the quote that President Barack Obama gave as their intention for their series.

“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,”<>“That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

And this they did. The stories were captivating … fascinating … and gave people a place to relate to other human beings while calling their own vulnerability and compassion forward … This gave them hope for a happier life because they could become part of something greater than the individual they were … They mattered in the whole of things …

It doesn’t help to lecture people about being kind and understanding. That just makes them feel bad about themselves. It makes them angry. But if you can help them feel they matter … that there are others who they can care about and who would love to care about them … then you can inspire changes in the nature of who they ‘be’ and in how they live their lives.

This series initiated by the Obamas, gave people hope. The people watched others who not only lifted beyond their pain but who transcended a way of life … to achieve unimaginable things.

The desire to help others who had lost their sense of belonging … grew exponentially … and as people acted out of this, they would feel more meaningful and significant in their own lives … They would come to know more of their significance for the whole of society … for the welfare of their country … and in the world …

People became more involved in news and social media so that they could connect and learn more about one another … so they could inspire one another … They shifted from feeling isolated … to feeling a sense of connection with others who felt or thought like they did … or whose thoughts inspired them to think in new ways … as their thoughts also inspired others to explore new ways of perceiving life …

Knowing we belong … that our life matters in this world … helps us feel more fulfilled … It comes from a deep need to love and to be loved … from a desire to know the secrets of life itself …

This happened for America … not just for North America … It spilled over into South America, started by Columbia … and the changes in South America would then inspire North America … And these living breathing changes lifted the function of life in the Americas.

This movement was contagious throughout Canada, Mexico, Europe … and spread throughout the world, as we now see, creating many alliances. I will not list all the countries that are now in a constructive communicative process with us … but we who are here, have witnessed the progression.

Among other subtle but powerful influences in 2018, I recall in this moment, a documentary by a muslim woman, Deeyah Kahn, who interviewed alt right white men. She was looking for the humanity in them … to understand them … And the relationship she developed with alt right leaders, inspired caring and compassion which changed the course of potential destruction and violence to one of understanding, caring, and love.

Before I say any more … close your eyes … and let what I am saying move you to accept more of the beauty and love … of the humanity you Are … of the individual you Are … We need one another, as the imaginative, creative, and innovative individuals that we Are … but also as a Humanity who realizes and accepts Its Soul … and the Spirit of Its truer nature … to love and be loved … to reveal the secrets of Its own mysteries … to be happy … to have fun … to remember that all of humanity … and all that is natural … that is nature … matters … has value … and exists to share the love he/she/it … Is … This is the only way we make it. If we do not find our way here, we do not have a future together on this earth.

In a quiet pause, Maya Angelou appears with Einstein as they join Anais and Virginia. Maya sings her poetry through her soul … into the hearts and minds of all who attend:

<>There is a true yearning to respond to
The singing river and the wise rock.
So say the Asian, the Hispanic, the Jew,
The African and Native American, the Sioux,
The Catholic, the Muslim, the French, the Greek,
The Irish, the Rabbi, the Priest, the Sheikh,
The Gay, the Straight, the Preacher,
The privileged, the homeless, the teacher.
They hear. They all hear
The speaking of the tree.
Today, the first and last of every tree
Speaks to humankind. Come to me, here beside the river.
Plant yourself beside me, here beside the river.
Each of you, descendant of some passed on
Traveller, has been paid for.
You, who gave me my first name,
You Pawnee, Apache and Seneca,
You Cherokee Nation, who rested with me,
Then forced on bloody feet,
Left me to the employment of other seekers-
Desperate for gain, starving for gold.
You, the Turk, the Swede, the German, the Scot…
You the Ashanti, the Yoruba, the Kru,
Bought, sold, stolen, arriving on a nightmare
Praying for a dream.
Here, root yourselves beside me.
I am the tree planted by the river,
Which will not be moved.
I, the rock, I the river, I the tree
I am yours- your passages have been paid.
Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need
For this bright morning dawning for you.
History, despite its wrenching pain,
Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage,
Need not be lived again.
Lift up your eyes upon
The day breaking for you.
Give birth again
To the dream.<>
